AAWAZ’s work with the female carers and families goes back over ten years. We offer support, advice and signposting to our Carers and their families. We assist them with interpretation and translation as and when required.
The AAWAZ Chairperson manages the Carers group for Carers Link Hyndburn, she herself is a carer and was assisted by key people from Hyndburn Borough Council to set up AAWAZ in 1998.
AAWAZ Manager supports female carers and families across Lancashire. Access Point is the Hub of activity and support for or Carers many of who can be best described as “hidden” or “invisible” carers, as they have no contact with any other voluntary, community or statutory organisation.
AAWAZ offer activities, information and awareness sessions, trips and a luncheon club for the female carers.
In June 2008 AAWAZ presented the findings of a unique piece of research looking at the needs of Asian heritage female carers in the area of mental ill health very appropriately titled “Humari Kahani” meaning “Our Stories”. The Humari Kahani report is accompanied by a DVD outlining the life stories of three such carers.
