Bringing Communities Together Project

AAWAZ firmly believe that all communities need to understand and appreciate their differences as well as their commonalities. Our ethos on self help and emphasis on helping people and communities to feel that they belong to the culture of this country has lead to the creation of this Bringing Communities Together project funded through the Prevention of violence extremism fund.

AAWAZ have planned this project from a communities perspective concentrating on the role of the mother within the family. AAWAZ know that women and families are central to any work in delivering effectively around the prevention agenda. Women as mothers, sisters, grandmothers, wives and aunties tell us that need to be capacity built and equipped with the knowledge and skills as well as a deep rooted understanding so that they can in turn work and influence their children and their family members to prevent disillusionment and segregation.

AAWAZ Bringing Communities Together project was described as “Unique” and a model of good practice at the Lancashire Learning Together Event on 28 October 2008.
