Young AAWAZ is a project specifically aimed at young women aged 14 - 22 years of age from a south Asian background in the Hyndburn Area.
The project is funded through Young Peoples Fund. The main aim of young AAWAZ is to support and guide young women in their self-development, and to offer young women educational and employment opportunities through coaching and mentoring. Our Leadership programme is continuing to make further progress.
The Young AAWAZ project was initially created due to requests made by mothers and local families who had been accessing the services provided by AAWAZ from the very beginning. The mothers in particular identified the need for a young girl’s project, which would work to provide support and mentoring to young Asian women living in the area.
Our main aims and objectives are:
• To equip young women in self help, self confidence and personal development.
• To work to empower young women to assist them in accessing educational and employment opportunities.
• To train and equip young women for the leading role they will take in our society in the future.
• To promote the views and specific needs of young Asian women to official agencies.
• To work with young women and bodies with hope to enable positive change, but also to support and mentor the young women to be confident and well equipped to voice these needs themselves to agencies and to the wider communities.
• To promote the wider engagement of young women and girls of Asian heritage in their local community, so that community cohesion and solidarity is improved.
• Building the confidence and raising aspirations of the Young women and girls through mentoring, coaching and shadowing opportunities.
• Building and creating volunteering opportunities to equip young women to gain employment related knowledge and skills.
